Celebrate the Folk School's Roots During Scandinavian Week: March 24-30
| |||
In
the early 1920s, Olive Dame Campbell and Marguerite Butler spent a year
visiting folk schools in Norway, Sweden, and Finland. However,
the ladies were most intrigued by the Danish folk schools they explored
during their travels. Olive believed a Danish-style folk school would
blend well with our Appalachian region's culture. Returning home, she
helped establish the John C. Campbell Folk School in 1925. We
celebrate our roots with our annual Scandinavian Heritage Week classes.
Join us from March 24-30, and immerse yourself in many delightful
aspects of Scandinavian life. Enjoy special foods, music, dance, and
crafts from this fascinating part of the world.
