Second Annual Art & Garden Bazaar in Tryon

April 30 -  The Second Annual Art and Garden Bazaar will be held on McCown Street in Downtown Tryon and is free to the public. Vendors specializing in plants and art for the gardens, will be selling flowers, shrubs, birdhouses, decorative art and accessories. 15% of sales will benefit ARTSCAPES, a project celebrating cultural landscapes and creating public art throughout the communities of Tryon, Landrum and Columbus.


The Bazaar is presented by Tryon Fine Arts Center and sponsored by Carolina Foothills Chamber Foundation in partnership with Polk County Extension Center, The Town of Tryon, Tryon Garden Club, Green Blades Garden club, and the Daffy Jills. Magnolia Garden Club and in conjunction with the Green Blades Garden Club 2011 Tour of Homes.

Jackson County Recreation Center receives Quilt of Jackson County

Cullowhee  North Carolina. On Thursday, May 27th, Catch the Spirit of Appalachia (CSA) and the Appalachian Homestead Farm & Preserve presented the Jackson County Recreation Center a hand pieced, appliquéd quilt of Jackson County in appreciation for the past five years assisting the Patchwork Folk and Fabric Festival. The Center staff  have assisted with anything needed before, during and after the annual show. The quilt has been in the making since the beginning of the year, and will now be on display at the Center located at 88 Cullowhee Mountain Road in Cullowhee.
The 5th annual Patchwork Folk & Fabric Festival will be June 5th at the Jackson County Recreation Center. Come and check out the quilt and take advantage of the handmade arts & crafts show from 9am until 4pm.  For more information, call the Recreation Center at 828-293-3053.

Folkmoot USA Last Weekend

16-26 Folkmoot USA. Folkmoot USA, North Carolina's Official International Festival, is a two-week celebration of the world's cultural heritage through folk music and dance. Held each summer across the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina, Folkmoot features performances, parades and workshops by more than 350 performers from a dozen or so countries. Performers demonstrate cultural heritage through colorful, authentic and original reproduction costumes, lively dance and beautiful music. During its 25-year history, over 200 folk groups from more than 100 countries have shared their heritage and culture at Folkmoot USA.
