Mountain Made Ribbon-cutting Re-opening
January 18, 4:30 PM, Mountain Made at the Grove Arcade in Asheville NC. Mountain BizWorks will celebrate another woman-owned business when Mountain Made, a retail shop located in Asheville's Grove Arcade Public Market, hosts a ribbon-cutting for its re-opening. Melinda Knies, long-time store manager at Mountain Made, purchased the retail store from Mountain BizWorks in November 2011. The ribbon-cutting ceremony is open to the public and refreshments will be served.
The gallery shop features handcrafted work from more than 150 Western NC artisans, including jewelry, pottery, textiles, glasswork, furniture and more - the same types of popular items featured by Mountain Made since Mountain BizWorks opened the store in 2002.
"Melinda has managed Mountain Made since the beginning, and this is a great opportunity for her to take the store to the next level and make it her own," says John Mark Stroud, Mountain BizWorks' Board Chair. "Mountain BizWorks' Board of Directors and staff are proud that we have helped an entrepreneur transition to ownership of a local business." Knies is thrilled to become a business owner again. "I am excited to continue building the business and the relationships that have been established with the artists and customers over the last nine years."
Mountain Made is located inside the historic Grove Arcade in downtown Asheville at One Page Avenue, Suite 123. Store hours are Monday through Saturday, 10:00 am - 6:00 pm, and Sunday noon - 5:00 pm.

Heartwood Gallery Cecbrates American Craft Week
![]() |
| Teapot by Ronan Peterson |
Heartwood Gallery is focusing on several North Carolina artists this entire month. Jim and Shirl Parmentier make their ceramic lamps and serving pieces together in their Mars hill studio. Using slabs and coils they transform clay into vessels and then carve and glaze the surface to uniquely beautiful effect. The first grouping of lamps this year was quickly scooped up and we expect to have more in our windows by American Craft Week.
Deb Karash creates jewelry in her studio in Marshall where she focuses on surface design and fabrication giving each piece an intimate quality. Deb suggests "something personal is expressed in the wearing of handmade jewelry" and we could not agree more.
Ronan Peterson works in his Chapel Hill studio and we are excited to add his functional forms to the gallery's ceramic collection this October. His glaze palette is rich, colorful, and fun and his pieces reflect the skilled hands of a professional potter who obviously enjoys his work.
Heartwood Gallery is located at 21 East Main Street in Saluda NC

First Sale Ever at Home of the Perfect Christmas Tree Store
The Home of the Perfect Christmas Tree project will be celebrating its customers and community with a month long celebration and first ever sale beginning in March.
“Our product makers and our staff both wanted a way to thank the community and the shop's customers for all of their support. This project would never have reached the success that it has without them,” said Linn Hise, Project Fiber artist and spokesperson. During the month of March, a 20 percent off sale will begin on most of the products in the store. Other products will be offered at half off. “There has never been a sale on the handmade products at the store, however our product makers have generously offered to put their products on sale to show their appreciation to our customers,” said Hise.
“This sale, and the month long events, is a great time for our customers to come into the store and visit us online to enjoy the savings as well as to see the new products on display. Also, we will be sharing with customers the big plans and changes that will be coming to the project this summer,” said Hise.
March 4-11 Free Offer: Come into the Store or call us toll-free March 4-11 and receive a free gift with purchase while supplies last!
