Blowing Rock Art and History Museum Fall Exhibition Celebration

September 1, 2016 at 5:30 PM at The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum (BRAHM), 159 Chestnut Street in Blowing Rock NC:   Fall Exhibition Celebration.  Come join the fun and celebrate the opening of several fall shows at BRAHM. Free admission, live music, drinks, and hors d'oeuvres.

Ski Exhibit Opening at The BlowingRock Art and History Museum

January 24, 5 PM - 7 PM at The Blowing Rock Art and History MuseumThere's No Business Like Snow Business: History of Skiing in the High Country officially opens with a reception, free and open to the public.


The exhibit looks back at the development of the region's ski industry and winter tourism through photographs, archival materials, equipment and gear, resort histories, personal recollections, video footage, and other artifacts.

Also enjoy $3 off regular adult admission to the Museum during WinterFest weekend (Jan. 23-25).

Blowing Rock Art and History Museum Cocoa and Canvas

January 23, 5 PM - 7 PM at The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum (BRAHM):  Kick off Blowing Rock's WinterFest with Cocoa and Canvas.  Enjoy this fun, family-friendly art class with professional art instructor, Dacia Threthewey, and take home your own piece of art.  Absolutely no experience is necessary.

BRAHM will provide all supplies, including a hot cocoa bar and snacks, for both adults and children. Normally priced at $40, this special WinterFest-themed event is now only $20 for adults (age 16+) and $10 for children (children must be accompanied by an adult).

Thanksgiving Weekend Events at The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum

November 29 - Forget Black Friday at the mall. Make your post-Thanksgiving shopping a COLORFUL day at the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum gift shop featuring art by local artists in partnership with The Art Cellar of Banner Elk, new exhibit merchandise from the latest exhibit - The Painted Song: Art of Wiili Armstrong - and unique books.  They will also be debuting NEW CHILDREN'S GIFTS including a variety of creative crafts, books, puzzles and toys.  You'll be able to find something for everyone on your list in one stop. The store will be open regular hours, 10 AM - 5 PM.

November 30, 3-4:30 PM - BRAHM Holiday Open House.  Following the Blowing Rock Christmas parade this free, family-friendly event features:

  • Children’s chorus concert: Green Valley/Valle Crucis and Caroler and Cherub Choirs of Boone United Methodist Church
  • Holiday crafts for kids
  • Refreshments
  • Angel Tree benefitting the Grandfather Home for Children
  • Admission to Museum exhibits

Blowing Rock Art and History Museum Premieres Keepsake Exhibition Book

October 3 - Blowing Rock Art and History Museum  hosts  the premiere of their keepsake exhibition book, Art Among Friends: Four Collections of American Art.

There will be the first purchasing opportunity, live music, hors d’oeuvres, and wine. The party is from 6 PM until 8 PM. Remember that this is the last month for this exhibit of American impressionism--Art Among Friends closes on November 2. There will be a guided tour of the exhibit prior to the premiere.

Blowing Rock Art and History Museum Summer Camps and Workshops

The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum has announced that registrations forms and descriptions are now available for their summer camps and workshops.

Workshops and camps offer  a variety of subjects including: Shape Note Singing, Southern Appalachian Dance, Grand Club, Mountain Life, Brilliant at BRAHM, Fun-Damentals of Painting, Illustrate Your World, Appalachian Art AdventuresAppalachian Documentary Film Series and Oil Painting.

Blowing Rock Art and History Museum First Lecture of the Season

April 18, 4:30 PM at the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum (BRAHM)  Third Thursday returns.  BRAHM hosts Ralph E. Lentz II and Julia Taylor Ebel who will present "The Picture Man". Lentz wrote the book that was used as the basis for W.R. Trivett: Imaging the Mountains exhibit and Ebel authored a children's book about a traveling photographer using Trivett's photographs as inspiration.

This special Third Thursday is for everyone including children. Admission is $5 for adults and free for children. A book signing and reception will follow the lecture.
