Asheville Art Museum Hosts Brevard Music Center Summer Festival Mini Series

June 26 -  In conjunction with the Brevard Music Center's famed Summer Festival, the Asheville Art Museum is proudly partnering with the organization to host a series of three special performances at your Museum this summer. The Summer Festival Mini Series  Concerts will take place at 7:00 PM in the Museum's new Art works PRIMED East Wing Gallery on June 26, July 10 and July 17. Tickets are $6 for Museum Members, $10 for non Members.

The June Concert includes a recital of solo piano music by Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, and others, featuring young virtuosi from around the country who are in residence this summer at the Brevard Music Center.

Concerts at The Asheville Art Museum

Sunday, November 7, 3:00 PM, Gallery 6, Dr. Teresa Sumpter performs at the Pianoforte Concert series. A recent transplant to the area, Dr. Sumpter is an Assistant Professor at Mars Hill College and a board member of the Asheville Area Piano Forum. She will be performing works by Bernstein, Beethoven, Montsalvatge, Scriabin and Rachmaninoff. The Pianoforte Concerts fill up fast, so please reserve your seats early by contacting Nancy Sokolove, Adult Programs Manager for reservations at 828.253.3227, ext. 120 or nsokolove@ashevilleart.org. $6 Members; $8 + Museum Admission Non-Members

November 9, 7:00PM, Gallery 6 Flutist Kate Steinbeck directs Elegy, Keowee Chamber Music's Holocaust Remembrance Concert. Elegy is performed at different venues in Western North Carolina, and we are pleased to be able to participate in what has become an annual event for the Keowee Chamber, this year featuring the music of Bernstein, Kaprálová and Shostakovich with pianist Daniel Weiser, cellist Elizabeth Gergel and flutist Steinbeck. "I don't know how anybody could have come out of Elegy without being deeply and forever changed," wrote a listener in 2009.

Hands in Harmony Concert and Exhibition

Sept 14, 7:00 PM at the Diana Wortham Theatre, Pack Square, Asheville north Carolina - Hands in Harmony: The Concert.  Hear  many renowned musicians, view Tim Barnwell's photos and support your Asheville Art Museum! Celebrate Tim Barnwell's photographs with headlining performances by David Holt, Wayne Henderson, Maggie Lauterer, Bobby McMillon, Laura Boosinger, Don Pedi and Bruce Greene and others. A fun event for the entire family, enjoy the music along with projections of Barnwell's captivating images. The artists will be available after the concert for a book and CD signing.

Tickets are currently available through the box office at Diana Wortham Theatre and on their Web site, www.dwtheatre.com. The Asheville Art Museum Member discount is also available for online ticket purchase. $8 Museum Members + Students; $10 General Admission Tickets on sale now!

The concert will be held in conjunction with the exhibition Hands in Harmony: Traditional Crafts and Music in Appalachia, Photographs by Tim Barnwell on view at The Asheville Art Museum through Sunday, October 10, 2010.

John C Campbell Concert Series

June 18, 7:30 PM, Festival Barn,  John C Campbell Folk School, Brasstown North Carolina.  The Kudzu String Band from Alabama - Celebrate the season's longer days and later evenings with old time, bluegrass, and folk music. Swing and sway to sounds of some of your favorite local and regional musicians. Our concerts are free and open to the public. Donations are gladly accepted.
