October Jack Wall Hanging

Saturday, October 6

10 am - 3:30 pm (with half-hour lunch break). Tuition: $40. Instructor: Patti Simpson.

Instead of dealing with messy slimy pumpkins seeds and sharp knives, you can make this Jack o’Lantern with squares and triangles of fabric. We will piece, layer & quilt this 14” x 18” wall hanging. Some beginning quilting experience needed. Don’t have a sewing machine to bring to class? The Textile Studio has several available for you to use. Just let us know if you need to use one of our machines when you register.

A supplies & materials list will be provided when you register.

 

City Market Basket 

Wednesday & Thursday, October 10 & 11

Two-day class. 10 am - 2 pm each day. (with half-hour lunch break). Tuition: $60. ($35 plus $25 kit). Instructor: Renee Acord.

The city market basket is designed for a beginning to intermediate student.  Renee will introduce using fillers in the bottom of the basket and a color pattern design. The basket is 8” X 12” with a 12” handle. Bring your lunch or eat at the Schoolhouse Café and plan on leaving with the finished basket! Minimum 4 students; maximum 6.

Blue Moon Classes at Quilter's Quarters

Aug 5 and 15 at Quilter's Quarters, 1510 Dellwood Road in Waynesville NC. "Blue Moon" class is derived from Karla Alexander,  "Red Onion" author. This is a design as you go quilt...some pre-cutting will be required before class.  No limit on colors...material list will be available next week and on the website.

And for just plain fun, the July 29 class Mystery Table Runner begins at 6PM and includes food and drinks. The class will be repeated on Aug 12.

Quilt Retreats in the Smoky Mountains

Back by popular demand at Quilter's Quarters is "Batik Quilt for 2".  Grab a friend and have a fun weekend sewing this quilt.  It is a quilt designed to be worked in pairs.  Each of you will end up with a quilt.

Happy Birthday Quilter's Quarters

April 1 Quilters Quarters in Waynesville celebrates its 4th Birthday with a party. There will be door prizes, lots of sales, cake, and finger foods.  The shop will be staying open till 8:00 p.m. on Friday the 1st  and will have "Make & Takes" for 8 people who SIGN-UP from 4-6:00 and 6-8:00 on Friday and 1-3:00 on Saturday. You will just need your machine + B.S.S...materials will be provided... cost will be $15 a person, but it is limited to those who sign up.

"Quilt Pink"Donation Quilt : Baggies ready for you to pick up to help us make blocks for Quilter's Quarters donation quilt. Most of the fabric is provided - you just need to add a 3-1/2" piece of your own fabric. It can be any shade of pink, printed or not. When you return the block, you will receive a free fat quarter!! This quilt is for Haywood county for free mammograms or women who need cancer counseling.

National Quilting Day Celebrated at The Folk Art Center

Susan Web Lee's "Log Cabin Remodel"

March 19, 10am to 4pm, The Folk Art Center, Milepost 382, Blue Ridge Parkway, Asheville NC.  The annual National Quilting Day is sponsored by The National Quilting Association, Inc as a fundraiser for local charities. The 2011 project is a log cabin quilt with a free pattern and instructions  found at:  www.nqaquilts.org.

Members of  the Asheville Quilt Guild will host an exhibition of log cabin quilts at the Folk Art Center including Modern and vintage quilts. Connie Brown and Robin Brooks, who are members of  the Asheville Quilt Guild and the Southern Highland Craft Guild, will demonstrate their craft from 10am to 4pm in the center’s lobby. 
Visitors are invited to bring in their own quilts for evaluation. and  the Allanstand Craft Shop at the Folk Art Center will feature a variety of traditional and handmade quilts made by members of the Southern Highland Craft Guild.

Quilters Quarters Has Moved!

The Quilters Quarters has completed its move to1510 Dellwood Road, just 1/2 mi north of the previous location....3/8 mi from the stoplight of Highway 276 and 19 heading into Maggie on the right hand side of the road.

Hard work last week, from building shelves to organizing, has allowed the shop to be open for business again! Come seethe brightly lit space with the addition of over 100 new fabrics including 300+ bolts of fabric for $5.95 and other regular specials.

The classroom space still has a few boxes to unload so it will take a little time to get the new schedule out for classes.

The Storytelling Center in Bryson City Needs Quilters

The Storytelling Center in Bryson City is looking for quilters or people who want to learn to quilt to participate in a quilting bee an hour or two a month. The storytelling center will provide the space, quilting frame, supplies, refreshments and a great atmosphere for quilters to come and share the art of quilting.  All you need to do is bring cloth squares and volunteer 1 to 1½ hours a month for quilting.
