Asheville Area Arts Council Sponsors the Color Ball


August 27 at 8 PM    The Color Ball is Back   The Asheville Area Arts Council is bringing back the color ball, an event with an ever-changing color requirement in the dress code. This year attendees should get decked out in their finest turquoise attire and join the party at The Orange Peel to help celebrate and support the Asheville artist community.

The event is called The Turquoise Ball - A Celebration of Our Unique Culture.
  Planned events include a fashion show and performances by Paper Tiger, DJ Marley Carroll, Members of Asheville Symphony, sage, the Eternity dance troupe, Aerial Space Cadets, Santos, Barrett Smith and more!

Nightly Contra Dances This Week at John C Campbell Folk School

It's Dance Musicians' Week at John C Campbell Folk School. This fun week long class teaches students to adapt their various instruments for contra and square dance music. These experienced musicians are improving their skills playing in a group, and learning techniques for playing for dances.

In order to practice playing music for dances, there must be...dances! The community is encouraged to attend free contra dances each night in the Community Room. The callers will be Bob Dalsemer and David Kaynor, with music by the class and instructors.
Dances: Monday - 8- 10 p.m.
Tuesday - 7- 9 p.m.
Wednesday - 8- 10 p.m.
Thursday - 8- 10 p.m.
Friday - after the concert*
Saturday- 8- 11 p.m. (the regularly scheduled dance with admission charged.)

*The free Friday night concert at 7 PM. will feature our talented instructors of Dance Musicians' Week. Come listen to New England contra dance tunes from David Kaynor, Peter Siegel, Sue Songer, and Naomi Morse. The concert will be held in the Festival Barn.
