30th Annual Quilt Show in Asheville

September 28 - 30   30th Annual Asheville Quilt Show  Over 200 quilts will be on display vying for $7,000 in prize money. 20+ vendors, a Guild Gift Shop and quilts are for sale. There will be daily demonstrations of different quilting skills. Free parking and lunch purchase available. 

This year's Show is held at The WNC Agriculture Center, 1301 Fanning Bridge Road in Fletcher NC (Just off I-26, across from the Asheville airport)

NC Craft Event: Ashe County Quilt Fair in West Jefferson

September 14 - 15   10th Annual Ashe County Quilt Fair   This year's Fair theme is " Our Journey: Celebrating a decade of quilting". Events include the Guild Shoppe and Guild Boutique with quilts for sale, a fund-raiser quilt, vender village and small quilt silent auction. The Fair is held in Jefferson Station.

Blue Ridge Mountain Fiar and Quilt Show

July 27-28  Blue Ridge Mountain Fair   Discover the handiwork of local artisans at this arts and crafts fair, held in the heart of Sparta NC at Crouse Park. The event features local artisans, entertainment and food vendors.

Fairgoers also have a chance to visit the Alleghany Quilter’s Guild Show at the Black Exhibition Building at the Alleghany County Fairgrounds on US 21, 1.5 miles north of Sparta.See the creativity of local quilters and vote on your favorite for the People’s Choice Award. There will bea variety of  demonstrations each day including hand appliqué, hand quilting, felting, hairpin lace, etc

A free shuttle bus will be available between the Quilt Show, the Blue Ridge Crafts Show, and the Vintage Car Show.

Quilting and heritage Crafts at the Franklin Folk Festival

July 21  9th Annual Franklin Folk Festival   More than 100 living exhibits and demonstrations allow visitors to experience what mountain life was like way back when. These folks learned at their parents’ knee woodcarving, moon shining, basket making, weaving and spinning, and all the many other things they’ll be demonstrating.
Exhibits include everything from quilting and moonshinin' to Civil War reenactors. Activities get underway at 9:00 AM and conclude with Pickin' on the Square in the evening.

This year
a special event, the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the Franklin Fire Department, will held in collaboration with the festival and will feature booths, speakers, games, and vintage trucks, equipment and memorabilia. There will be antique Fire Engines on Display along the west end of Main Street plus an old fashioned bucket brigade challenge and other games & contests for all ages. The Fire Department Celebration area will kick off at 11:00 AM. in front of Macon Bank with greetings from the NC State Fire Marshal, Wayne Goodwin.

2012 Quilt Symposium at WCU

June 7-10   2012 Quilt Symposium  - Stars over the Smokies  3 days of workshops and lectures by well-known quilt instructors. Attendees may stay on campus or attend as a day student. There are still classes available and registration is possible up to the beginning of the event. If class spaces are still available on June 7, you may still register for single day long classes on Friday or Saturday, or a lecture on Sunday morning.

The Quilt Show, in Hinds University Center will have over 300 quilts,
24 vendors, a silent auction, a raffle quilt, and other events. The admission price is $5 per day. You may also purchase tickets for Linda Cantrell's humorous lecture, “Applique—I did it my way.” The lecture will be Saturday night at 7 pm at Coulter Auditorium. The cost for the lecture is $10. The show will be open to the public during the following hours: Thursday, June 7th, 3-7pm. Friday and Saturday, June 8th and 9th, 9am - 7pm. Sunday, June 10th, 9-11am

Western Carolina University will also have an art quilt exhibit at the Fine Arts Center and a vintage quilt exhibit at the Heritage Center. These museums will be open during symposium on Thursday evening and Friday, and both exhibits will be open all summer.

Annual Airing of the Quilts this weekend in Franklin NC

May 12    Airing of the Quilts Downtown stores and churches will be decorated with quilts. Downtown Square will features exhibits by the Smoky Mountain Quilters guild, Macon county Quilt Trail, Macon County Art Association, and various community development clubs. The Town of Franklin antique fire truck will be decorated and on display.

Understanding Quiltmaking Workshop at Cloth Fiber in Asheville

March 24, 31 14   Cloth Fiber Workshop, 122 Riverside Drive, Studio D • Asheville, NC  - A Hands-On Approach to Understanding Quiltmaking in American Culture with Richard Caro,. This class strives to answer the questions: why do we make quilts the way we do and how do we understand quiltmaking culture?

While working with diverse fabrics, basic tools, simple block structures, and reading craft and quiltmaking research, you'll begin to identify and engage with the many approaches (material, social, commercial, spiritual, symbolic) used in quiltmaking. In-class hand sewing affords the opportunity for each quiltmaker to work on her or his own quilt-top while talking and sharing as a group and learning about quiltmaking in American culture. Level of Expertise: all levels. Fee: $145 + materials fee.

Holiday Hours for Quilter's Quarters

Quilter's Quarters, 1510 Dellwood Road in Waynesville  NC, will be open Sat, Christmas Eve from 10:00-2:00 PM - Get those last minute stocking stuffers and gift certificates. The shop will be closed on Monday, December 26th, and will be closing at 5:00 PM now through the winter.

Quilter's Quarters Ruler Demo and Discounts tomorrow

Aug 6 at Quilter's Quarters there will be lots of exciting new rulers and patterns that go with them....open your world to a new concept in quilting. Karla Alexander has several books out that many have used already, but now she has teamed up with Creative Grids to make rulers for all her "free-form" cuts....you don't have to have the rulers to make the quilts but it sure is alot easier.

The demos will also be using the "90 degree double-strip" ruler that goes with Kathy Brown's new book...."Strip-Smart Quilts"...makes perfect seams every time for half-square triangles, 60 degree triangles and 45 degree kaleidoscope triangles; all from 2-1/2" strips.

The demo will be at 10:00, 10:45, 11:30, 12:15 and 1:00 in the classroom at the back of the store. Quilter's Quarters is located at 1510 Dellwood Road in Waynesville NC

Happy Birthday Quilter's Quarters

April 1 Quilters Quarters in Waynesville celebrates its 4th Birthday with a party. There will be door prizes, lots of sales, cake, and finger foods.  The shop will be staying open till 8:00 p.m. on Friday the 1st  and will have "Make & Takes" for 8 people who SIGN-UP from 4-6:00 and 6-8:00 on Friday and 1-3:00 on Saturday. You will just need your machine + B.S.S...materials will be provided... cost will be $15 a person, but it is limited to those who sign up.

"Quilt Pink"Donation Quilt : Baggies ready for you to pick up to help us make blocks for Quilter's Quarters donation quilt. Most of the fabric is provided - you just need to add a 3-1/2" piece of your own fabric. It can be any shade of pink, printed or not. When you return the block, you will receive a free fat quarter!! This quilt is for Haywood county for free mammograms or women who need cancer counseling.

National Quilting Day at the Folk Art Center TODAY

March 19 10 AM to 4 PM in  Asheville NC the National Quilting Day  is marked by  Members of  the Asheville Quilt Guild. The group will host an exhibition of log cabin quilts at the Folk Art Center including Modern and vintage quilts., as well as demonstrations. Visitors may bring their own quilts for evaluation.

This year's Guild project is the Log Cabin Quilt.

National Quilting Day Celebrated at The Folk Art Center

March 19, 10am to 4pm, The Folk Art Center, Milepost 382, Blue Ridge Parkway, Asheville NC.  The annual National Quilting Day is sponsored by The National Quilting Association, Inc as a fundraiser for local charities. The 2011 project is a log cabin quilt with a free pattern and instructions  found at:  www.nqaquilts.org.
Members of  the Asheville Quilt Guild will host an exhibition of log cabin quilts at the Folk Art Center including Modern and vintage quilts. Connie Brown and Robin Brooks, who are members of  the Asheville Quilt Guild and the Southern Highland Craft Guild, will demonstrate their craft from 10am to 4pm in the center’s lobby. 
Visitors are invited to bring in their own quilts for evaluation. and  the Allanstand Craft Shop at the Folk Art Center will feature a variety of traditional and handmade quilts made by members of the Southern Highland Craft Guild.

Highlands Bascom Art Center features Quilt Exhibit

November 12 - Dec 18    A Stitch in Time Quilts  Exhibit at the Bascom art center in Highlands NC provides an opportunity to examine quilts on loan from local collectors and appreciate functional objects as works of art. As with most traditional crafts what began as a day to day necessity of life has evolved into a high art form with both functional and aesthetic use.

20th Annual High Country Quilt Show in Maggie Valley
