January 25   Brown Bag and Books Series  Beginning at noon at The Black Mountain Center for the Arts welcomes back Montreat professor and acclaimed author Don King for a reading and book-signing. Black Mountain Books will be on hand with the first available copies of this brilliant new work with the author available for signing. Bring a bag lunch. No charge for this event, but donations are accepted.

Asheville Art Museum Bookclub Discussion - James Joyce

May 8, 3 PM - 5 PM  Monthly Bookclub Discussion at The Asheville Art Museum. A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man,  by James Joyce. Joyce’s classic, semi-autobiographical novel tackles the serious subject matter of religion, authority and art, tracing the intellectual and philosophical awakening of his alter-ego, Stephen Dedalus, who travels abroad to purse his ambitions as an artist.

During the Museum’s monthly reading group participants read and discuss books that relate to work in our galleries. Discussion Bound is led by a Museum staff member or volunteer. Free with Museum admission or Membership.

Author Pam Flowers Speaks at The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum this weekend

April 20th , 6 PM at BRAHM, 159 Chestnut Street in Blowing Rock NC - Adventurer and Children's Author Pam Flowers, the first woman to complete the trans-Arctic "Fifth Thule Expedition" trail alone with a dog sled, will speak at BRAHM about her experiences in the wilderness.
Flowers is a seasoned adventurer, having participated in nine arctic expeditions, including a solo 2,500-mile dog-sled journey across Arctic America. She is the author of Ellie’s Long Walk, Hug a Husky and Douggie, and the co-author of Alone across the arctic: One Woman’s Epic Journey by Dog Team and Big Enough Anna. Her next goal is to hike the Pacific Crest Trail!

April 2, 6 PM at The Market on Oak, 262 Oak avenue, Spruce Pine NC -  Sharyn McCrumb and Michael Hardy will be guests at The Market on Oak. Sharyn McCrumb's New York Times best-seller The Ballad of Tom Dooley and the new J.F. Blair edition of her award-winning Civil War novel Ghost Riders with foreword by NC Historian of the Year Michael C. Hardy will be featured.

Michael Hardy's book "North Carolina and the Civil War," will also be featured and discussioned during the event.
