The Center for Craft, Creativity & Design Announces Participation in WantedDesignBrooklyn

On January 28, CCCD announced its participation in WantedDesign Brooklyn May 7-17, 2016 during NYCxDESIGN, New York City's official annual citywide celebration of design.

The Center for Craft, Creativity & Design will display its recent exhibition Made in WNC, featuring work by twenty-four regional textile, ceramic, and furniture studios, at the international fair. CCCD is grateful to Explore Asheville for making the travel of this exhibition possible.

Made in WNC was organized by The Center for Craft, Creativity & Design, curated by Marilyn Zapf, presented by Explore Asheville, and received support from the NC Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources.

The Center for Craft, Creativity & Design advances the understanding of craft by encouraging and supporting research, critical dialogue, and professional development in the United States. CCCD is located at 67 Broadway Street in Asheville NC.

Asheville Downtown Gallery Association Art Walk This Friday

April 3, 2015   Asheville Downtown Gallery Association Art Walk     Enjoy the fine art and craft of the Asheville Downtown Gallery Association. Within a half-mile radius of Pack Square and the city's center, you'll find unparalleled diversity from fine studio crafts, to glass, photography, folk art and contemporary painting, metalwork, textiles, jewelry and more by local, regional, national and international artists.  

Browse 20+ downtown venues with a complete Downtown Gallery Guide and a map available at any participating downtown gallery, the Asheville Visitors' Center or Pack Place. 

The Walks take place each first Friday from 5-8PM, April through December.

NC Featured Gallery: The Folk Art Center on The Blue Ridge Parkway

The Folk Art Center,  Home base for the Southern Highland Craft Guild, the Center is the hub of traditional and contemporary mountain art and crafts, with changing exhibits in both the focus gallery and the main gallery and the permanent exhibit all styles are displayed.


Demonstrations and educational opportunities are scheduled regularly and there are special events throughout the year. The members shop is visited by thousands of tourists and locals annually. The Folk Art Center's  ONLINE SHOP  offers a variety of member's hand crafted products.

Current Exhibits include:
Main Gallery -
Sculpture and functional ceramics made by teachers and students of Odyssey for Ceramic Arts will be showcased Jan. 12 - April 21.
Focus Gallery -  Featuring the work of Valerie McGaughey (fiber) and Virginia McKinney (clay) Dec. 15, 2012 - March 19, 2013.

Reminder: River Arts District Stroll This Weekend

November 10-11 in Asheville NC:  River Arts District Studio Stroll   The largest and most walkable tour of working artists' studios in the region, the River Arts District Studio Stroll takes place in 19 historic buildings along the French Broad River. There will be artists' demonstrations and hands-on activities throughout the weekend.

Shop handmade and "Give a Gift of Art," this holiday season. Browse through over 200 different artist studios within a 1 1/2 mile stretch.  There are family friendly festivities for all ages.  Enjoy artists demonstrations, hands-on activities, music, food and more at the River Arts District Studio Stroll. 10 AM  to 6 PM both days.  Get your stroll on...

The Stroll is easily accessible by car from Downtown, West Asheville and Biltmore Village, and there is plenty of parking. Gallery Minerva Presents Anne Bachelier

Gallery Minerva has announced that internationally acclaimed figurative artist, Anne Bachelier, will be joining the gallery on Saturday, November 10th, from 6pm - 9pm  to celebrate her latest body of paintings, drawings and the first edition release  of her most recent book, 13 Plus One

Kenilworth Art Studio Tour This Weekend

 May 26 -27   Kenilworth Art Studio Tour   Twenty-two artists invite you into eleven neighborhood studios & galleries. Browse and/or purchase original artwork. Kenilworth Artists Association is a community of artists in one of Asheville's oldest neighborhoods, with a lovely mix of grand homes, modest bungalows and mature gardens.

Over forty aspiring and professional artists live in the five square mile neighborhood just minutes from downtown. Each year, many of these artists open their doors to the public for a festive tour that attracts shoppers and art lovers alike. 10 AM - 5 PM both days.

Annual Wood Day at The Folk Art Center

August 13 Wood Day at the Folk Art Center in Asheville.  An annual celebration of wood crafts including live demonstrations and the Eleventh Annual Carve-Off Competition from 1 PM - 3 PM.  The Folk Art Center's auditorium will be filled with lathes, sawhorses, wood tools and the master craftspeople who know how to use them. Demonstrations include flute making, wood turning, broom making and furniture design and construction. Southern Highland Craft Guild members Sandra Rowland and Jan Morris will host activities for children.

Annual Open Studio Tour in Asheville's Kenilworth Neighborhood

May 21 - 22   Kenilworth Artists Association Open Studio Tour    Artists in Asheville's Kenilworth neighborhood open their doors to the public every third weekend in May.  Find glass, fabric, wood, paper, pottery, painting, mixed media and photography.

Kenilworth is one of Asheville, North Carolina’s oldest neighborhoods with a  mix of grand homes, modest bungalows and mature gardens.  Over forty artists live in the four square mile neighborhood just east of downtown Asheville. The mission of the
Kenilworth Artists Association is creating art, promoting greater visibility and sales of our artwork through studio tours, and to encouraging  Kenilworth residents to develop and share artistic interests of all kinds
