August 29, 2015     Qualla Arts and Crafts Open Air Indian Art Market    " Where our family traditions become your family heirlooms".  The Open Air Indian Art Market showcases traditional, handmade Cherokee arts and crafts. 

Come to shop for authentic and unique gifts but stay for the music, food, storytelling, and craft demonstrations. This outdoor event is held in the Cultural District of Cherokee next to Oconaluftee Islands Park. A traditional Cherokee meal will be for available for purchase.

Cherokee Gourd Artist Gathering

May 30 - June 2  11th Annual Gourd Artist Gathering   An event featuring exquisitely crafted gourd art. This year’s Cherokee Gourd Artists Gathering brings together collectors and exhibiting artists for a weekend of live demonstrations, classes, competitions and a spectacular art market offering stunning works of gourd art, materials, tools and supplies.

Come see how an inexpensive, traditionally utilitarian component of the Cherokee household is transformed into a piece of artwork. Admission is free.

Mountain Heritage Pow Wow Celebrates Native American Crafts

September 14-16   Mountain Heritage Pow Wow The 7th annual event held this year at the Mountain Heritage Expo Center (621 Micaville Loop) in Burnsville NC. An exceptional opportunity to learn about the history and culture of the Native American People. 

Activities include dancing, drumming, singing, a lodge, demonstrators, story tellers, music, hand made craft vendors, and Native American food. Hours are Friday 8 AM - 9 PM, Saturday 9 AM - 9 PM and Sunday 10 AM - 5 PM. Admission is $5 for Adults and $2 for Children. Friday is Kids Day and children are FREE with their schools.

Friday will be Kids Day and activities will be geared to teaching the children a variety of things about Native American people.

Asheville Art Museum Lunchtime Art Break

July 13, 12:00 - 1:00 at the Asheville Art Museum, 2 S. Pack Square in Asheville NC:  Ancient Forms, Modern Minds: Contemporary Cherokee Ceramics. This is an Artist-Led Tour and Discussion Cherokee potter Joel Queen, whose works are featured in the current exhibition Ancient Forms, Modern Minds.

Among the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians there are a wide array of talented artists working in different media. In this exhibition, the Museum explores ceramics made by contemporary artists who blend contemporary and traditional designs and techniques.

The Asheville Art Museum offers a series of gallery talks and presentations, "Art Breaks", designed to engage Museum visitors in dialogue with staff members of the Curatorial and Education departments, Museum Docents and special guests such as featured artists.

Indigenous tribes from across the Americas gather for the sixth Annual Festival of Native Peoples this weekend at the Cherokee Indian Fair Grounds in Cherokee, N.C. Considered the finest showcase of native dance, song and art in the southeast, the event honors the collective history, customs and wisdom of some of the oldest documented tribes.

July 1 - 3    6th Annual Cherokee Art Market   A showcase of the best Native American artists from across the country, the annual Cherokee Art Market is the perfect opportunity to marvel at and purchase prize-winning art in all mediums directly from the artists.This 6th annual event is sponsored by the Oconaluftee Institute for Cultural Arts and funded by the Cherokee Preservation Foundation. This year more than 100 artists are expected to participate.

Craft Festival at the Old 1886 Mill this weekend

June 18 -  Craft Festival at the Old 1886 Mill   Artists from all over the Southeast will gather to demonstrate and sell their hand crafted works. See a variety of media including Cherokee Indian stone carvings, wood carving, Cherokee gourd art, blacksmithing, jewelry design, plus Appalachian crafters and authors.
The 1886 Historic Mill is real Indian Trading post, #90, and located on the edge of the Cherokee Reservation at 3082 US 441 N.  Open Monday - Saturday in season and Saturdays only during the winter. Goods include Handmade Soaps, Candles, Antiques, Moccasins, Cherokee Crafts, Cornmeal, Grits, Honey, Country Ham, Jams, Cheese, Pickles and Orchard Fresh Cider, gold, diamonds and American Indian made Jewelry.
