Penland School of Crafts 2014 Core Fellows Show Opening a Success

Blowing Rock Art and History Museum Presents Creepy Crafts and Fall Fables: Hainted Yarns from Near and Far

October 25 at the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum, 159 Chestnut Street,| Blowing Rock NC - Fall Fables: Hainted Yarns from Near and Far bring you Spooky Stories from the mountains, told by Sherry Lovett.  The thing that draws Sherry to storytelling is the magical ability of stories to shine the light on our interrelatedness – the connection of people with people and people with nature – and by this awareness to create more harmony in the world. Sherry Lovett tells a variety of stories including folktales, Native American tales, scary stories, and fairy tales, using precise language, eloquent movement, and dramatic voices to bring the stories to life.

Creepy Crafts -
Create some holiday crafts from 2 PM - 3 PM after listening to some spooky stories and before heading out to the Town's Halloween festivities.

Cashiers Leaf Festival Features Mountain Arts and Crafts

October 10 - 12, 2014   Cashiers Leaf Festival   Each year, the Greater Cashiers Area Merchants Association (known locally a GCAMA, or G-comma) sponsors the Cashiers Leaf Festival. This 3-day event celebrates the beauty of the season that's particularly unique to this area. More than 100 artisans offer unique handcrafted wood, pottery, jewelry and much more on display and available for purchase throughout the weekend .

Featuring arts and crafts from local and regional artisans, food from area restaurants, music from a variety of bands on two main stages, and activities for all ages at various locations throughout the Cashiers Valley, the Cashiers Leaf Festival serves as the centerpiece of the area's Leaf Season.

October 11, 2014   31th Annual Mountain Glory Festival   The festival covers the court house lawn and 3 blocks of downtown Marion NC. Browsers and shoppers looking for original handicrafts or handspun enjoyment will find plenty of choice among more than 125 artists, crafters and food booths and a variety of entertainment, from local bluegrass bands playing traditional mountain music to haunting melodies of Native American music. 9:30 AM - 5 PM.

41st Annual Fall Festival at John C Campbell Folk School this Weekend

October 4 - 5, 2014   John C Campbell Folk School Fall Festival   Celebrate the rich heritage of Appalachia at the 41th annual Folk School Fall Festival, featuring over 200 juried and non-juried craftspeople. Handcrafted items for sale include jewelry, woodturning, pottery, weaving, ironwork, photography, rugs, woodcarvings, furniture, paintings, baskets, and much more. 

Live music and dance on two stages, great food, craft demonstrations, and kids' activities including pony rides are just a few more reasons why the John C. Campbell Folk School Fall Festival is one of the most popular events in the region.  The brand-new Festival Barn Stage is now complete and will have its debut  this weekend, showcasing a cavalcade of fantastic dancers and musicians.

Enjoy a smooth and easy Fall Festival parking experience this year, the product of a team effort between the Folk School and Murphy Medical Center's Nursing Home Staff. We're adding a free parking shuttle, courtesy of Cherokee County Transit, to get you back and forth between the parking lot and the entrance gate. Handicapped parking is available in the gravel lot by Keith House and by the Fiber Arts Building. The shuttle service makes the Fall Festival accessible to all, regardless of where you park. 

Visit the Craft Shop during the Fall Festival, and enter to win a $100 Gift Certificate. The Folk School's Craft Shop represents more than 300 juried craftspeople. Browse an impressive collection of traditional and contemporary Appalachian crafts. The Craft Shop is also proud to be the home of the world-renowned Brasstown Carvers.
