Our friends at Random Arts are ready with their usual "open mindedness" for another exciting, fun and creative year in 2016. New artists will arrive on the scene along with "tried and true" artists that return year after year. Some events are already posted on their website while others will continue to develop as the year unfolds and the creativity blossoms.

The painted peace poles by Stephanie Burgess, well known artist from Bellingham, WA.You will find these in all sizes at Random Arts this spring and along with the poles Stephanie has created both large and small flags for your yard. How have we lived without these this long?

June 26 - 28, 2015 at Random Arts 481 Louisiana Ave in Saluda NC: Collage and Stencil Workshops. These are Seth Aptner's final workshop sessions for 2015.
June 26 - Dimensional Stencils. Stencils are popular and they are perfect in mixed-media art.They are inexpensive, re-usable and easy to store. You will learn how to create textured and dimensional effects using stencils and be introduced to stencil techniques that you may have never thought of. Put all of these new techniques into use with a variety of products and create amazing art. Fee $125. 10 AM - 4 PM. s\Some supplies are required, however the teacher will be sharing his stencils and other products with you.

June 27 - Collage Camp - this workshop i now full.
June 28 - Picture Windows. Memories of your pet? Special friend? A happy birthday tribute? Start digging out those fave photos and pick out the best ones for this all day workshop and your special gift will be completed by the end of the day. You'll create a double-sided, 3-foot long, hanging montage that is every bit as artful as your photos. Large sheets of watercolor paper will soon transform into beautiful and decorative surfaces using a series of layered paint techniques. You'll then move on to creating the form for the photo display using folding and die cutting techniques. Next comes your photo op where "ordinary photographs are turned extraordinary through a series of hand-altering approaches." Your pieces finally come together, and you leave with both a one-of-a-kind mixed media project as well as a slew of techniques to apply to future projects. Fee $125. 10 AM - 4 PM
May 2 and 3, 2015 at Random Arts, louisiana Ave in Saluda NC - Sunny Carvalho Workshops.
May 2, 10 AM to 4 PM: Need a hand made Mother's Day Gift? Sunny invites you to learn how to paint whimsical, fun characters using a variety of techniques and supplies. Learn how to capture the expression of these fun characters and create "absurd" body types. It's sure to be a day without pressure and a humorous day of painting whimsical little people from your own imagination. Even if you think you can't draw, Sunny will guide you in a way that will allow you to find as many characters that appeal to you, rather than just copying her style. You'll complete as many as your creatuve hands and heart can handle in this full day class. Beginners are more than welcome.
May 3, 10 AM - 4 PM: Favorite Pet? Lovable Character? Huggable You? Try your hand in this workshop with the gentle guidance of Sunny at your side. "Perky Paper Mache' Pretties" on Sunday will get your hands down and dirty with paper mache', paint and plenty of action. You will find yourself jumping into a day of making faux paper mâché characters. Using Sunny's method, you will learn how to "Mâché the Easy Way" and make as many 4" x6" "characters" as you can turn out in this full day workshop. Beginners are more than welcome and you'll need very few supplies for this class.
Sunny Carvalho is a mixed media artist living in Alabama amidst the chaos of too many art supplies. Focusing on hand-sculpted ceramic dolls and pendants and mixed media paintings, her quirky characters have found their way into many of the mixed media magazines.
Sunny is an instructor at Art is You (Petaluma, and Benecia, CA, Nashville, Memphis, Minneapolis), and Art Unraveled (Phoenix), as well as various individual studios. According to her husband, she lives in a world where everything is happy and squirrels iron her pants. Learn more about Sunny here.

Lunchtime Art Breaks are a series of
gallery talks designed to inform and engage you in dialogue with members of
staff. For Asheville Amadeus, Asheville Symphony Director David Whitehill will
join with a member of the Museum’s curatorial staff to “dissect” works of art.
Participants will learn how to analyze both a work of art and a musical work by
Mozart. Free with membership or Museum admission
