Ordinary Furniture - Woodwork By Derek Hennigar

"Ordinary Furniture" is anything but ordinary. Artist  Derek Hennigar acknowledges the name may be ironic, but likes to maintain the connection with the ordinary gathering and cutting of wood, a common activity through the ages. Born in Asheville (that alone is enough to recommend him) Hennigar continues to learn about trees and how to use them in making a contribution to the future of handcrafted wood work. He is influenced by modern sculpture, Scandinavian design and Appalachian traditions. His work may be one-of-a-kind or part of a series, but all is designed to last for generations and improve with age.

Ordinary Furniture and Derek Henniger can be found this week at the Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands in Asheville North Carolina.
