Join John C Campbell Folk School for a week of honoring and celebrating the Folk School's Scandinavian heritage. The School's founders, Olive Dame Campbell and Marguerite Butler, studied the folk school model in Scandinavia, certain that they could enhance rural life by adapting these ideas for a school in Appalachia. Several of the Folk School's traditions today, such as Morning Song and a non-competitive spirit, come directly from Scandinavian folkehojskole. Our motto "I sing behind the plow" is from a mid 1800s poem by Danish farmer and poet, Mads Hansen.
