Upcoming Events at The Asheville Art Museum

September 18, 10:00 - 11:00 AM:  Yoga classes in the Museum's galleries. We will practice relaxation yoga, inspired by the surrounding art. Please bring your own mat, yoga props (if you have them) and wear comfortable clothing.   $8 members, $12 non-members.

September 24, 6:00 - 7:30 PM:   Up for Discussion.  Held in conjunction with Human and Machines: The Robotic Worlds of Adrianne Wortzel, rnjoy a lecture and presentation with artist Adrianne Wortzel. She will talk about her robotic installations and performance productions and future projects. Her work has been exhibited, collected and published nationally and internationally. She is a Professor of Entertainment Technology and Emerging Media Technologies at New York City College of Technology, City University of New York.  Free with membership or Museum admission and free for UNCA students with a student ID.

September 26, 5:00 - 7:00 PM: Gallery Talk and Opening.  Join the Museum for a special gallery talk with artist Mary Frank at the opening for her exhibition Finding My Way Home. Frank was born in London, England in 1933 and moved to the United States at the age of seven. In the early 1950s she began carving wood sculpture, and briefly studied with Hans Hoffman and Max Beckmann. In 1969, she worked on large multi-part, figurative clay sculptures, drawings and monoprints, which remained the major focus of her work throughout the 1970s and '80s. In the 1990s, she turned to painting as her primary medium. Frank will talk about her life and career. Following the talk will be a reception until 7:00 PM. Free with membership or Museum admission.

September 27 - the Museum staff will be participating in Highland Brewing Company's "Crafted Kegs". This Brewery anniversary event, held at the Company's Meadow, honors the art community by showcasing local arts and crafts organizations in a fun way and to say "thank you" to the arts community. The event will be judged and cash prizes awarded.
