Artisans Drive About and Art Studio Tour this weekend in Robbinsville NC

June 26 - 27, 2015    Stecoah Valley Spring Artisans Drive About   Visit artisans' studios and galleries during the open house drive-about studio tour. Get up close and person with the artist and see numerous live demonstrations.

The hours will be 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM both days. The Schoolhouse Cafe at The Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center will also be open. The Cultural Arts Center is located at 121  Schoolhouse Road in Robbinsville NC

Shop the Artisans Gallery In-store and On-line

Visit the Stecoah Artisans Gallery Monday thru Saturday 10 AM - 5 PM. The Gallery represents over 150 local and regional artisans who craft in wood, fiber, glass, clay, silver and other natural resources. Beginning in April, the gallery will be open 10 AM - 5 PM Monday through Saturday.

The Gallery is also online at StecoahGallery.com. Shop dozens of hand-crafted items on your computer, tablet or phone; and even more products are coming soon.

The Artisans Gallery's online store is stocked with lots of great handmade items that you can order from your computer or mobile device. Just go to StecoahGallery.com  and browse through dozens of products including prints and paintings, wood products, pottery, soaps and textiles. More are being added weekly. And all your purchases directly benefit artisan entrepreneurs and Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center.

Holiday Arts and Crafts Show at the Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center

December  14    Indoor Holiday Arts and Crafts Show   Held at the Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center Gallery from 10 AM to 5 PM, just in time to finish  your Christmas gift shopping. The Center's cafe will be open all day.  Have breakfast with Santa for 9 - 11 AM and enjoy Pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee for only $5.

New Arrivals at the Stecoah Artisans Gallery

Recently-added items at the Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center Gallery include a series of musical instrument paintings by Wendelyn Cordwell, quilted table runners by Rena Magolnick, hand-crafted wine racks by James Ewing as well as Stecoah's branded merchandise:  hats, koozies and coffee mugs.

 


The Stecoah Artisans Gallery is open 10 AM to 5 PM Monday through Saturday, and in the evenings of the 'An Appalachian Evening' concerts.  The Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center is located at 121 Schoolhouse Road in Robbinsville NC.

January and February at The Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center Gallery have been spent doing inventory, rearranging items, meeting with artisans and preparing to reopen on March 1st. The Gallery offers over 1,500 unique, handcrafted items representing 145 local and regional artisans.

Gallery operating hours are Tuesday through Friday 10 AM to 5 PM, March through December and Tuesday through Saturday 10 AM to 5 PM April through October. The Gallery and the Stecoah Artisans Guild continues to support local artisan entrepreneurs through marketing, sales, networking and business education opportunities.

Register for classes at Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center

October Jack Wall Hanging
Saturday, October 6
10 am - 3:30 pm (with half-hour lunch break). Tuition: $40. Instructor: Patti Simpson.
Instead of dealing with messy slimy pumpkins seeds and sharp knives, you can make this Jack o’Lantern with squares and triangles of fabric. We will piece, layer & quilt this 14” x 18” wall hanging. Some beginning quilting experience needed. Don’t have a sewing machine to bring to class? The Textile Studio has several available for you to use. Just let us know if you need to use one of our machines when you register.
A supplies & materials list will be provided when you register.
 
City Market Basket 
Wednesday & Thursday, October 10 & 11
Two-day class. 10 am - 2 pm each day. (with half-hour lunch break). Tuition: $60. ($35 plus $25 kit). Instructor: Renee Acord.
The city market basket is designed for a beginning to intermediate student.  Renee will introduce using fillers in the bottom of the basket and a color pattern design. The basket is 8” X 12” with a 12” handle. Bring your lunch or eat at the Schoolhouse CafĂ© and plan on leaving with the finished basket! Minimum 4 students; maximum 6.

Summer Adult Classes at the Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center

Summer adult class schedule at the Center includes instruction for 22 different crafts, including beginning and intermediate knitting, rug braiding, basket weaving, quilting and doll making. Stecoah Ramp Festival this weekend

April 28   Stecoah Ramp Festival, Dinner and Concert   Browse locally made artisan craft booths on the lawn beginning at 11 AM. Free Cherokee finger-weaving class with Shirley Welch, 1-3 PM. Paula Nelson entertains with Cherokee stories and songs 6:15 - 7:15 pm (free). Dinner seatings at 5:30 PM or 6:30 PM -. Dinner price is $15.95 for adults, $9.95 for children 12 and under.

Complete dinners are served family style at two seatings - 5:30 and 6:30 PM - in the Stecoah dining room. Dinner features the down-home goodness of Southern Appalachian mountain cuisine, using the freshest local produce available. Reservations required for dinner. At 7:30 enjoy local favorite My Highway in concert in the Lynn L. Shields Auditorium - Tickets are $10 Adults; $5 Students (K-12); Children under 5 are Free.

Upcoming Classes at The Stecoah Valley Center for the CUltural Arts

Appalachian Art Classes at the Stecoah Valley Center for the Cultural Arts:

March 24, 9 AM - 5 PM    Wet Wool Felted Hat (NEW). Tuition: $50.00 (includes wool)  This is the class you asked for. This workshop will give you hands on experience to create your own unique wet wool felted hat. Karen Taylor will teach the felting techniques needed for three dimensional felting. No prior experience necessary.

April 27, 10 AM-2 PM  Make Your Own Journal! (NEW)   Tuition: $35.00 (includes materials)   Phyllis Jarvinen, creator of artist’s books will teach you how to make a 5.5 x 4.25 book using her handcrafted book cloth and paste paper. At the end of the class you will take home your own handmade book with long stitch binding.

Phyllis will provide handcrafted book cloth for cover, paste paper, and text weight paper for pages as well as all other tools and materials needed to complete your book. February Classes at the Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center

Saturdays, February 4th & 11th, 2012, 10:00am – 1:00pm  Knitting for Beginners. Tuition: $40.00  - Come & knit with Sissel Varum. This class is perfect for beginners or those who would like a refresher course in the basics. Students can choose one of 2 easy projects: a hot pad or baby socks. 

Saturday February 11, 2012 - 1:00-3:00  FaceMug Pottery Class. Tuition: $25  - Instructor Rob Withrow will bring mugs pre-prepared for you to add your own face design – a self portrait; a caricature; your favorite animal; something whimsical – the choice is yours to create. After class, Rob will take your creation back to his studio, add a handle, glaze and fire it. He will then bring the finished mugs back to Stecoah for you to pick up (usually takes a week). Participants will need to wear clothes they don’t mind getting messy and/or bring an apron.

Saturdays, February 11, 18, 25, 1:00-4:00pm   Quilting for Beginners. Tuition: $45.00  - Have you wanted to learn how to piece a quilt but didn’t have someone to teach you? In this class Patti Simpson will teach the basics of piecing a quilt top using a sewing machine, including how to properly use a rotary cutter to cut your fabric. You will make the top for a small quilt (34” x 40”) using the Rail Fence Block, suitable for a baby gift, lap quilt, or wall hanging, depending on your choice of fabric. Students should be comfortable using a sewing machine. Don’t have a portable sewing machine to bring to class? Don’t let that stop you. Stecoah Textile Studio has two machines available for students. To complete the quilt you may take additional classes in basic machine quilting and binding, or pay a professional quilter to quilt your masterpiece.
