Knitting for Beginners, - July 19, 21, 26 and 28, 10-Noon each day, Tuition $40 Optional Kit Fee $10. Come learn to knit or refresh your skills in this relaxed no pressure class. Beginners who are new to knitting will learn the basics and make a pretty scarf. Students with some knitting experience will have the option of making a lovely scarf using a drop stitch pattern. A supply list will be provided when you register for the class.
Knitting for Intermediates --- Socks, Socks, Socks - July 25th, July 29th, August 1st, and August 5th, 2011, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm on each day . Tuition: $ 40.00 Optional Kit Fee: $18.00. This 4-session class is geared for those with knitting experience who want to take their skills to the next level. The class project will be socks that you can make for a gift or keep for yourself. In this class you will learn how to use a set of four double-pointed needles. When you register you will be provided with a materials list or, if you prefer, you may purchase a kit for $18.00 that will include the pattern, yarn, and set of wooden, double-pointed knitting needles.
Jeremiah Basket Class - Wednesday, July 20, 2011, 10am-3pm, $55 (Tuition $30; Materials kit $25). The second basket in the series of four that will be by Renee Acord. Designed for a beginning to intermediate basket student and is relatively easy to make. This is a handsome and sturdy basket. There will be color reed of your choice. The basket is approximately 10” square, 9” deep and has a 14” D handle. Bring your lunch and plan on leaving with the finished basket!!! Class is limited to 6 students.
Basic Machine Quilting and Binding - Wednesday July 27th, 2011 10:00pm - 4:00pm, Tuition: $30.00 Materials fee: $15.00 (optional). What to do with those quilt tops you pieced? Rena Magolnick will teach techniques to quilt & bind them. In this class students will piece a simple placemat (a/k/a small quilt), quilt it using a sewing machine, and make and attach double-fold binding. The quilting & binding techniques used for the placemat are the same that can be used on a larger quilted project. Students should be familiar with the use of a sewing machine, and a machine with a “walking” foot (a/k/a “even feed” foot) is needed. If you don’t have a sewing machine to bring to class, let us know. The Textile Studio has some machines available.
A Taste of Weaving (Floor Loom) - Saturday, July 30, 2011, 1:00pm - 4:00pm, Tuition: $35.00 (Includes Materials. This beginner’s class is perfect for those who want a hands-on weaving experience with a simple project. The project for this class will be “mug rugs” (also known as coasters). Diane Kelly will teach the basics of using a floor loom, using the shuttle to weave your mug rug with good, even tension. The looms will be set up for you, ready to go.
Wool Rug Braiding for Beginners - Wednesdays, August 3rd, 10th and 17th, 2011, 1:00pm - 4:00pm, Tuition: $57.00 (Includes Materials) This beginner’s level class will meet for 3 sessions, for a total of 9 hours of instruction and is good for beginners or those with limited experience who want a refresher. Diane Ellis will teach the basic technique of wool rug braiding and the class project will be a chair pad. Once you learn the technique you can move on to larger projects. The materials includes the wool fiber to make the chair pad and the loan of a braiding stand for the duration of the class. Purchase of a braiding stand is optional, but if you would like one the instructor will have some available.
Table Runner Workshop - Tuesday, August 9, 2011, 10:00pm - 4:00pm (includes break for lunch) , $30.00 Materials fee: $30.00 (optional). Rena Magolnick will teach the basics of piecing a quilt top by machine while making a beautiful table runner. We will be using a strip piecing technique to make the center section in a Seminole band pattern. Students should be familiar with the use of a sewing machine. If you don’t have a sewing machine to bring to class, let us know. The Textile Studio has some machines available. Students will be provided with a supply list upon registration. A kit including fabric for the table runner top, back, and binding, with thread for piecing the blocks may be purchased for $30. Kits must be ordered by July 31st, 2011.
Wool Rug Braiding – Intermediate Level - Saturday, August 27th, 2011, 10:00am - 2:00pm (includes a break for lunch), Tuition: $25.00 (Includes Materials) . This 3 ½ hour workshop is for students who have previously completed a beginning level class in wool rug braiding. In this workshop, Diane Ellis will cover the process of designing rugs, including the selection and combination of colors. In this class, students will make some braiding samples of different color patterns. A braiding stand is not required, but bring one if you have one.
