Youth Art Workshop from Catch the Spirit of Appalachia

In 2011 a new type of artist brings added interest to ColorFest, Art of the Blue Ridge: The Young Artists of ColorFest. On Wednesday, July 27 a youth art workshop will take place at the Jackson County Community Center in Sylva from 2 PM - 5 PM.

The young artists will create a finished pastel art piece through a creative process facilitated by Doreyl Ammons Cain. Their art piece will be included in a series of youth note cards designed by Etheree Chancellor during the workshop. The young artists will have a table at ColorFest to sell their art note cards.

During the second part of the art process, facilitated by Victoria Casey McDonald, Terry Michelsen and Pam Dengler, the young artists will sketch out a mural to be completed at ColorFest on October 22. The theme of the mural is "Our Jackson County" and depicts the four seasons in a large landscape. The workshop ends with an acrylic color mixing demonstration by Doreyl.

The Young Artists of ColorFest workshop is open to youth ages 8 years to 12 years and ages 13 years to 17 years. A $15 materials fee covers the entire workshop. Call 828-631-4587 to sign-up or go to www.spiritofappalachia.org to download the application; limited to 15 participants.
